  • Is beyond the idea stage and can be shown or demonstrated (i.e., a prototype or pilot version)
  • Was designed with input from young people or the intended audience (i.e., “end users”)
  • Has already used feedback from end users to shape the innovation

*While innovations are often supported by larger teams, Breakthrough requires three designated individuals to be identified and consistently engaged in the Accelerator.

In addition:

  • Teams should have existing relationships with young people (e.g., a group, network, or community they can engage) and be willing to actively involve them during the program to improve their innovation.
  • All three team members must be able to fully participate in the 11-month program, from August 2026 through June 2027 (see Expectations of Teams for more information).
  • Teams must be able to receive funding, including submitting required forms such as a W-9 and ACH form.

If you don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to applyBreakthrough Accelerator values innovators with different backgrounds and experiences: We know that some teams who could benefit most from this program may not see themselves as a typical fit.
